Mother's Day Crafts for Kids

Mother's Day is an occasion to show your mom just how special she is. Your mother loves handmade gifts from you, especially when the gift reflects just how much you love her. Here are a few simple craft ideas that are sure to surprise your mom on her special day.

Hand-painted cards

The first step in any gift is a great card. It is best to use good paper for painting cards; card stock is great, but watercolor paper works well, too. These heavier papers add some durability to the cards as well. Write a poem or a note on the inside of the cards. Next, grab some paints and create a picture for Mom. For smaller children, grab some finger paints, and make hand-impressions. This is a real keepsake and helps your mom remember how small your hands once were.

Fun with pictures

Another great craft idea is to make a homemade picture frame. Picture frames are easily made by gluing popsicle sticks together; alternatively, use foam or cardboard to create a lovely frame. Decorate your frame with paint and stickers. Print a sweet picture for Mom, and secure it to the frame. You mom is sure to love this gift.

Jewelry

Jewelry is appropriate for all gift-giving occasions. Jewelry hand-crafted by you is a perfect way to say Happy Mothers' Day. Find some lovely beads and charms, and string them together using fishing line or an elastic band. Look for special charms, or find wooden beads that you can paint yourself. Make sure to make it large enough to fit over your mom's wrist or head.

Flowers

Akin to jewelry, flowers are another gift your mom is sure to love. To create a lovely flower bouquet, you need pipe cleaners, card stock, an empty jar and some tissue paper. Begin by gluing brightly colored tissue paper to the clear jar; using multiple colors creates a stained-glass-looking vase for your flowers. To make the flowers, simply draw several large flowers onto your card stock, and cut them out. Using tape, affix the flower tops to the pipe cleaners, which serve as the flower stems. Create more intricate designs by combining colors or layering smaller flowers on on larger ones. Make as many as you like, and when your vase has fully dried, put your flowers in it. This floral gift is guaranteed to brighten you mom's day.

There are many craft ideas for Mothers' Day. Whether you simply want to paint a card or create something more elaborate, Mom is sure to appreciate the hard work put into the project. Create something special for Mothers' Day, and let her know how much you love her.
